Georgia O'Keeffe. Winter Cottonwoods East IV, 1954. Oil on canvas, 40 x 30 inches. Georgia O'Keeffe Museum. Gift of The Georgia O'Keeffe Foundation. © Georgia O'Keeffe Museum. [2006.5.248]
Two cottonwood trees rise from thick trunks, their branches multiplying and intermingling as they grow upward. The barren trees and the surrounding atmosphere have been rendered with soft, painterly strokes. A patch of snow covers the ground beneath the tree on the left.
