Georgia O'Keeffe. Cottonwoods, ca. 1952. Oil on canvas, 30 x 36 inches. Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, Gift of The Georgia O’Keeffe Foundation. © Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. [2006.05.244]
Cottonwood trees are rendered abstractly in this work. Bright, soft patches of yellow and green, which represent foliage, are highlighted by sharper white lines. The brown trunk and branches are slightly visible beneath the yellow/green leaves. Bits of blue sky peek through the leaves in the upper half of the work.
