In the summers between 1912 and 1916 O’Keeffe attended and taught art classes at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville. This watercolor depicting the depicting the university’s law school building, highlights both O’Keeffe’s traditional training as an artist and her interest in the medium. She would go on to use watercolor to great effect which she would use to great effect in her early experiments with abstraction in the years following.
