Georgia O’Keeffe. Winter Cottonwoods East V, 1954. Oil on canvas, 40 x 36 inches. Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, Gift of The Burnett Foundation. © Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. [2007.1.28]
Large brown leafless cottonwood tree with extending branches that is enlarged to fill the entire canvas. Areas of hazy grey and white give a feathered softened element to the winter feeling evoked by the tree situated in a tan-orange background. Along the bottom edge beneath the tree is a dark brown and orange area that permeates up and blends into the background.
