Watercolors

“I found that I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way—things that I had no words for.”
– Georgia O’Keeffe

Between 1915 and 1918, in a breakthrough period of experimentation, Georgia O’Keeffe mastered the fragile medium of watercolors with progressions of bold lines, textured landscapes, and abstract forms. Decades later after suffering from macular degeneration, O’Keeffe remained committed to these themes and produced over forty assisted watercolor abstractions returning to organic shapes with minimal gestural brush strokes.
